Introduction-  My oh my! Last night we went over to metro elementary and preformed coding activites to the students and can i just say, how much fun this actual assignment was? When we first showed up to the event, me and my partner were extremely confused and lost, we werent sure what exactly we were supposed to be doing, nor exactly sure how it was gonna go. photos are down below of how both activities went- Drone Activity- We were told we were gonna do our drones first, so we marched ourselves right into the caferteria and got set up but not long into that process did our students show up. we had three kiddos in our group: Ariel, Julius, and Felix. our group was really a talkitive group, full of energy and all over the place but interested. While jackie was trying to get the drone connected, i kept the children entertained, talking to them about a little bit of everything from coding and drones to thier silly little family stories. Flips and tricks Today in class, we flew our actual drones! This was a totally different experience compared to just flying the drone simulator on our laptops. Our little drone friend, whom we just called Turtle was able to follow our code that we gave him to do and followed through it perfectly. We had our little guy create a square but at every corner of his route, he did a flip.  Below are some photos of Turtle's preflight check and his first take-off in our care. This is the code we gave him- -set his speed to something quicker -Flip right then left -then proceed to turn and fly forward to create his first length of the square -flip forward -turn and repeat three more times -finally, flip backward  -and land! Drones Drones and More Drones! Introduction- During this asynchronous week for class, we worked on an extremely fascinating website known as Droneblocks, where we flew a virtual drone using code that we created. I picked the Mars layout because of how different it looked and sure enough, it did prove to be a fun experience all around! (Of course that was after exploring the other required tabs) More explained down below- General tello instructions - -Make sure you review your code blocks and understand the intended behavior of your mission -Power on Tello and place on a flat surface in an open area indoors. -Double tap your home button and go to Settings > Wifi -Tap on the Tello, which will create a hotspot that will look similar to Tello-XXXXXX. -Double-tap your home button and return to DroneBlocks -Click "Connect To Tello" -Now that you're ready to execute your mission click the "hamburger" icon. (It is the blue icon with three lines.) -Click "Launch ...

WeDo 2.0 lab      Today, we did a super fun activity that many people wouldn't even think of, combining two subjects that don't seem like they would go together but once they do, it makes something absolutely amazing. We did the WeDo 2.0 lab where we took legos and combined them with coding, creating something new and exciting that performed a function. My partner and I had the activity of building the glow snail, the little creature shown above. What we had to do was create our glowing snail by slowly building him up with his legos and making sure he was connected to the app once completed. Once connected, we had to code in a simple code that changed the little light on his shell to different colors such as orange or green. He was a quite simple little critter to create and definitely a great introduction to coding. He is said to be best for first and second graders and I 100 percent agree! it's gonna be so fun seeing the kids' faces when they explore this little bug-e...
